Happy Birthday Rishabh

It's June 17th.

Happy Birthday Rishabh Kulshreshta!

Today you turned 18, howz your studies at IITM, CS coming up?

Do you know four years from this day, you are doing to get a TAG Heuer watch as a birthday gift? Not that you will ever wear it. You will store in in your cupboard like a piece of jewelry and continue to wear that watch that you have picked from a thela - a cart- close to your college. You won't wear it even after you will owe a billion dollar company. It's because it is in your DNA not to spend money on yourself. That is who you are, something you can't change!

I know you think of yourself as Rishabh, literally the best, but let me tell you something as a writer of your story, you are not the best, that tiara still sits on the worthy head of you know who! Anyways, your birthday is not the best day to break this news. Mean me! Sorry!

Hypocrisy Exposed

Today I plan to take a public oath for which my husband Mrityunjay Gautam will bless me till our last breathes.

My oath is- Starting today, I will NEVER buy any book in paperback version FIRST. I am addicted to books, and old habits die hard, so can't say I will never touch a paper book, but as I have cluttered and over-cluttered the space of my house with books, I am determined to buy a book ONLY when I read it on kindle and want to keep it in my library for the rest of my days.

There is this quotation which reads,
Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested.

Starting today, my library will have only to be digested books in them, the 'tasted' and 'chewed' category of books, I will buy on kindle.

By the way, the image is NOT my library, though it could have been.

Your characters must be 12 Angry Men

In one interview the writer of "Thelma and Louise" Callie Khouri was asked, "What kind of toothpaste Lousie will use?"
"A toothpaste with three different colors, blue, red and white," she answered without a moment's thought. She ALREADY had thought it through.

The backbone of any story is not the plot points, they are natural and organic milestones which the story is bound to hit if it has the real backbone of story- THE CHARACTERS.

If you leave your characters in one room, metaphysically naked, and they don't eat each other alive, sorry to break the news, but you don't have a story.

Blatant Demands

Today one of my characters told me, "If you plan to write me, finish this book "Word Power Made Easy", I use difficult words, and I don't want you to put a word in my mouth which you don't understand a meaning of, so please, do some real work,"
I like this kind of characters who make such blatant demands, and I also know I am using the word blatant at correct place.
Thank you!

I love my characters

Wrote Iravati Kulshrestha's character sketch, Man, that woman has given me tons and tons of information; now these are the kind of characters every writer wants to encounter on their journey. She gave me everything. Now, I just need to bead in some plot points and yuppie, there is a Story!

Matter of fact, my writing calendar is so full with such exciting stories that I wonder where the hell were these guys when I was banging my head against wall for past seven years for good stories?

Numero Uno Anthon Chekhov

After I will be dead, before starting my next life, I hope I will meet people in Hell or Heaven. There are some people at top of my list. Especially, if I plan to stay a writer in my next birth, which at this moment is the plan...
Anthon Chekhov, stands Numero Uno
I have not read all of his short stories but his plays are textbooks for a writer that teaches WHAT to write. Chekhov is all 'character, drama, scene,' writer, in other words, Master of the Art of Dramatic Writing. If imitation is the form of flattery, then I TRY to flatter Anthon Chekhov all the time and doesn't even reach to his feet. Therefore I have fixed this posthumous appointment

Pug has not reached Nirvana

Aarush Kashyap is one character who literally keeps me, the writer, dangling in the air till the last minute, this character would not give me one scene on my command, EVER. I distinctly remember this chapter- 7.3 (Meghana's POV). Aarush calls Meghana to his Rehab at 11:30 p.m. because he urgently needs to speak with Meghana.
I started to write the scene, and I THE WRITER, had no clue what this guy is going to say. I asked him politely,
"Aarush, please tell me what you plan to tell Meghana,"
"Give me a snippet,"
"But you have something in mind, right?"
"What is it?"
"Why don't you just hang around and listen,"
No kidding! That is how I wrote the scene. I had no clue why Aarush called Meghana.

The ultimate ambition of every writer is to create Mythology!
Sometimes I get these ideas of some remote future books, Damn, damn interesting ones... I know I will write these books say five or seven years from now, when I try and probe my characters to give me a teaser, they tell me "Why don't you shut up and finish the work at hand first?" Hmm... they have a point.

Most interesting phenomena found today

Today I found the most amazing phenomena of my career. Once a person starts to write at her/his full potential, s/he loses the capacity to write something that is not her/his potential. If we want to think, "Okay, I can write difficult, so I should definitely be able to write cr*p, but no, it doesn't work that way, cr*ppy writing needs different muscles and a person loses those muscles if s/he gets in the best shape. It is like I can either be 77 kgs of weight or 57 kgs of weight, I can't be both.

How did this enlightenment happen? Trying to write something for last 2 days without success.

On the journey to second book

2nd June, 2015
I cried for two hours, worsened my cold and running nose condition, am having a splitting headache at the moment. Because the people who don't even exist in real world are in lot of psychological pain! Welcome to the life of a writer!

1st June, 2015
I am loving and hating the characters of my second book of "Yin-Yang" series. They are so wicked that I feel like slapping them across their faces. But I stop the temptation because their wickedness is the breeding ground for the drama! So, I guess, I let go my humanitarianism in favor of good drama! Wicked me!

I have entered in the second trimester of my second book. It has taken enough shape now. Now I know I can't simply abort it on my whim.

27th May, 2015
I love my characters, they never hurry to tell me their story. But they come to me each day, and tell me something so interesting that I feel like saying, "Whoa! Thanks!"
